About

I’m Mark Harmon. I Work With Leaders Carrying Real Responsibility.

I’m a business owner, operator, and advisor who has spent much of my career building and refining real-world businesses. Northscape Advisory was created to help leaders step back, see clearly, and make thoughtful decisions about what comes next.

Many leaders carry significant responsibility—employees, organizations, families, and communities depend on their judgment. In those moments, what they often need most is not more information or pressure to move faster, but space to regain perspective and think clearly about the path ahead.

Northscape Advisory exists to provide that space.

A Path Built Through Responsibility

My path into advisory work didn’t begin in consulting. It began through responsibility, experience, and learning to navigate real decisions in the real world.

I became an Eagle Scout early in life, an experience that instilled a deep appreciation for leadership, preparation, and stewardship. Those lessons shaped the way I approached responsibility long before my professional career began.

Later, I served as a combat engineer in the United States Army, specializing in demolition and reconnaissance. That experience reinforced the importance of discipline, awareness, and thoughtful decision-making under pressure—qualities that continue to influence how I approach leadership conversations today.

Over time I moved into business ownership and entrepreneurship, building and operating ventures that required the same kind of judgment and responsibility many of my clients carry. Through those experiences I began working closely with other leaders and business owners who were navigating complex decisions of their own.

Northscape Advisory grew naturally from those conversations.

How I Think About Leadership

Good decisions begin with orientation.

Leaders are often encouraged to move quickly—solve problems, pursue growth, and push forward. But speed without clarity can lead to decisions that create new problems rather than solve existing ones.

In my work with leaders, the most valuable step is often stepping back long enough to understand the situation clearly.

Where are we actually standing?
What is already working?
What deserves protection?
What direction truly aligns with purpose and responsibility?

When leaders regain that perspective, the path forward often becomes clearer than expected.

My role is not to impose solutions, but to help leaders think carefully, see clearly, and move forward with conviction.

Northscape

Northscape Advisory is shaped in many ways by where I live.

My family and I live in the Northwoods of Minnesota near Nevis, surrounded by forests, lakes, and the quiet perspective that comes from time spent outdoors. This environment has long been a place where I think, reflect, and reconnect with what matters most.

Many summers have been spent traveling through the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, where direction matters and thoughtful preparation makes the difference between progress and confusion. Experiences like those reinforce a lesson that applies equally well to leadership:

Before choosing a direction, you must first understand where you stand.

The name Northscape reflects that idea. Just as a compass helps travelers orient themselves before choosing a path, Northscape Advisory helps leaders regain clarity before determining what comes next.

A Conversation

If you believe a conversation might be helpful as you navigate the responsibilities in front of you, you’re welcome to reach out.

Every situation is different, but thoughtful conversations often reveal more clarity than leaders expect.
